My Top Tip for Running

Today I’d like to cover one of my favorite pieces of wisdom for us beginner runners. Now that I’ve been out on the road a few times I feel comfortable passing on some useful info but of course I have much more to learn – this is just something I wish someone had told me before I started but never fear, I found out the hard way so you don’t have to. So what’s the problem? Dehydration! Not being properly hydrated is the biggest silent obstacle to successfully becoming a runner. Have you ever felt a sudden headache in the middle of your run? I had. Or nausea? Hopefully not. How about getting light-headed? I know when I get a sudden attack of dizziness it’s pretty discouraging and sometimes I even feel like I should turn around and go home. Dehydration can even cause you to become totally disoriented – not nice! Luckily this is a simple problem to...

My First Run Didn’t Quite Go As I Hoped

Hi there, and welcome back to my blog for those of us who are just getting started with running. Today I’d like to talk about something a little bit embarrassing, but it was the major issue I faced on my very first run – a sheer and utter lack of stamina. If you’re feeling bashful about your inability to jog a mile without huffing and puffing, trust me, you’re not alone! When I set out for my first run I had it all built up in my head. I had my shiny new shoes on, the motivational music was pumping in my head, I was all set to begin my fitness journey like a champion. The reality of the situation was…a little different. Five minutes into my first 5km and I felt awful! Now that I’m in my mid-thirties my stamina just isn’t what it used to be and especially after having two kids, I really couldn’t just jump right into it. It’s not like...

Adventures in Running

Hi, Patricia again. I’ve never been what one could call slender, but now, at 35, after my second angel was born, well, you know. Has UK become a kingdom of fatties 🙂 I looked at some of the diet programs we see every day on TV. The more we eat of a certain diet product, the more weight we lose. What a wonder! Diet idea wasn’t really too appealing. Spending money on special diets I didn’t trust, seemed overall like a pretty lame idea. I googled around about new exercise programs and those new all-night gyms, but I didn’t like the idea exercising only inside, and the commute to gym takes time. Running doesn’t require a commute! I found lot’s of good reasons why running is better than gym.   I came across, with the help of Google, great advice...

Why I Started Running

By on Aug 20, 2017 in Running |

Hi there, I’m Patricia and this is my first foray into the blogging world! I have recently taken up running and I thought it would be great motivation to track my progress as I go. I also thought it might be helpful to others to follow along on my journey, as when I first looked into running I didn’t come across too many things that share my perspective. I’m not exactly a fitness guru and all those buff Instagram stars are a little intimidating, right? Now about me: I’m 35 years old and I have two wonderful little kids who I’m lucky enough to spend my days at home with. As any parents out there know, it can be hard to find a single minute to yourself so when I first had the idea to do all this it definitely seemed a bit crazy!   My number one tip for any stay-at-home mom or dad is to carve out some time each day for yourself. That brings me to my very first piece of running advice:...
